You Caught Me Off Balance. . .

Anyone that knows me very well knows that when it comes to decorating I am an even Steven kind of gal.

I see others do unbalanced décor and I like the look, but I have a hard time doing it myself.

Recently I had some kind of a weird flu virus.  Didn’t actually know that’s what it was until my daughter read about it.

It started with my ears feeling like they were filled with water.  I mean I could actually hear water slushing around in there if I inserted a Q-tip and twisted.

Then one night my entire bedroom was spinning.  So bad that I actually got sick to my stomach.  Felt like I had just stepped off a bad, very bad carnival ride. lol!

A sinus headache followed and this went on for about 4 days.  Finally last Thursday I started feeling like my old, yes ‘old’ self again.  I’m wondering if that had anything to do with me decorating my mantle a  little off balanced?  Normally I would have hung the wreath ( A $3 thrift find that I added little faux pumpkins to) right down the center of that window.  Not sure if it was my being unbalanced or just plain laziness that caused me to hang it off center.  The window didn’t have a nail in the center.  But it did have a little handle on the side.  Heaven forbid walking out into the garage to get a hammer and nail.  Remember, I’m a little off balance.  I could have easily fallen down.  Hee-hee!

We all know the rule of decorating in threes.  That was easy, this set of funky corn came that way.  I’ve had them for years.  I usually use them outside.  I stitched the Merry harvest years ago also.  Still like it’s primitive charm.

Today I am so very thankful for my health.  It just takes a simple flu bug to realize just how important it is.  So glad to be feeling a little more even Steven these days.  I will however leave my mantle unbalanced.  It’s simple, but I am kind of liking it.

Let’s all remember to have gratitude in our hearts and give thanks!  Not just during the month of November, but each and every day.

Soon those of us in the good old USA will gather together with family, and  perhaps friends to thank the Lord for our abundance.  I love that this sampler reminds us to not only be thankful, but to speak kindness.

I certainly hope that none of you are feeling ‘off balance'!

hugs,

Jann

I have a really hard time not centering things too. I like the off-centered look. But every time I do it, I end up ultimately centering it.

Jann, you truly have a great eye. I wish I could decorate things half as fabulous as you do! Glad to read that you are feeling well again.

That is so funny because I am working on my mantel right now and trying to decide if I go for symmetry or not.

I'm glad you were off balance long enough to put that wreath on the side of the window -- love the look!! Glad you are feeling back in the center of things, however. Sally

So sorry to hear you were sick but glad you're better. I love your little off center hanging of the wreath! :) It's good to be crooked sometimes. :)
Be a sweetie,
Shelia :)

I like things "unbalanced"! That's my brain I guess! LOL... Actually I've been trying to de-train myself from being too symmetrical. It's much easier to be centered and well match, but I like the challenge!
Sorry you've been sick. I have had ear problems so many times I can't recall. Being dizzy is a rotten feeling. Anti-histamines help dry up the fluids in the ears.

I like the symetrical look most of the time but also like the highs and lows of off- balance. It can be a little tricky...odd numbers...that's the key. Your mantle is lovely as well as the other vignettes!

Your mantel looks great and I love the 'off balance' of it all!

My little sister had to go to the doctor for almost the same thing, though she had a nasty sore scratchy throat - something is def going around. Hope you are feeling better soon.

I love your Merry Harvest sampler! So sorry you've had this horrible bug but maybe you're getting it over before the holidays and will be fine then. I'm too symmetrical many times but envy those who bring it all off without that, and you certainly did on your mantel!

I am so glad that you are feeling better. I have inter ear infection and I think people think I have been hitting the bottle LOL - some days I just stay low and don't do much. So I understand completely.
I love your wreath off center on the mantle - it really looks good. In fact everything on the mantle looks terrific.
Have a great rest of the week.

it's not necessary to have a balanced mantel...in fact, mine is never balanced. I think a balanced mantel is more "formal and traditional", which I like, but it's not the style of my house...so there you have have it, an off balance mantel for me as well

Jann,
This made me feel so bad that you have been sick. It sounds as though it was a terrible bug. Glad you are better:) Your vignette is precious and the off-center wreath is perfect!

So sorry you weren't well! I had a bout of vertigo a couple of years ago and the lack of balance drove me crazy! I couldn't walk straight if my life depended on it.
